GAIFF Partnership with Foreign Embassies

On July 3rd, the 14th GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan IFF presented the cooperation with a number of Foreign Missions in the RA at a joint press conference. The conference speakers were: Matthias Kiesler, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Germany in RA, Alex Bortolan, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the French Republic, Meline Yeghoyan, Officer of Cultural Promotion of the Embassy of Poland to the Republic of Armenia and Susanna Harutyunyan, GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan IFF Artistic Director.

GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan International Film Festival is privileged to be traditionally supported by a number of foreign representations in the Republic of Armenia. A lot of festival initiatives were made possible through their generous support.

Thanks to the traditional cooperation with the Embassy of the French Republic in Armenia, and this year with the support of l'Institut français, a joint initiative will be implemented in frames of GOLDEN APRICOT 14thIFF. This year marks the 100th anniversary of a very influential French director Jean-Pierre Melville.On this occasion, a tribute will be paid to him and five select films will be screened.

 The Red Circle-one of the last films by Jean-Pierre Melville- will open the French Film Day. A special master class will be held by Portuguese film scholar Rui Nogueira, a Melville specialist, author of the book- The Cinema according to Jean-Pierre Melville (1996).

TenFrench productions are also included in the competition and non-competition sections of GOLDEN APRICOT. Amant Double by François Ozon (France) from Cannes Film Festival main competition will be screened in frames of Yerevan Premiers.

Within the frames of GOLDEN APRICOT IFF a GERMAN FILM DAY will be held in a long lasting cooperation with the Embassy of Germany and Goethe Institute. It will be opened with Fatih Akin’s Palme d'Or nominated film In the Fade. The leading actress of the film Diane Kruger won the Best Actress award at 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
Six German films are presented in different programs of the festival. For example, Cannes Film festival Un Certain Regard Award nominated Western by Valeska Grisebach is included in the main competition of GOLDEN APRICOT IFF.

The Embassy of Poland in Armenia supports the Polish Film Day. The great master of Polish cinema Andrzej Wajda passed away last year at the age of 90. Last year he was supposed to attend the festival and receive the Parajanov Thaler Award for his artistic contribution to world cinema. Awarding him with his award after his death and screening his last film Afterimage (Poland) will also be a way of paying tribute to him.

Golden Apricot Yerevan 14th International Film Festival is pleased to reestablish the cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Brazil in Armenia.

Two Brazilian productions will be screened:
The Cat from Havana, dir.Dacio Malta (Brazil)
Arabia, dir. Affonso Uchoa, João Dumans (Brazil)

The Russian Center of Science and Culture is supporting the presentation of Russian films within the frames of the festival.
The leading Russian, journalists and film critics are always very actively involved in the coverage of GOLDEN APRICOT IFF. The leading Russian cultural TV channel Kultura will also cover the festival this year.
The festival will also welcome among its guests prominent Russian film critics Kirill Razlogov, and Anton Dolin, who not long ago was appointed editor-in-chief of the renowned magazine Iskusstvo Kino (ART OF FILM).

Six Musicians and the City by Tatiana Danielyants՛ (Russia) and Touch of the Windby Olga Veremeeva and Elena Demidova (Russia) will have their Yerevan Premieres.
