DAB Story Development Workshop

The Directors Across Borders Eastern Partnership program upcoming Workshop will be held in June 11-15, in Yerevan. The Workshop will focus on the creative aspects of story development and will help to provide emerging scriptwriters, producers and directors the fundamental skills to create more engaging cinematic stories and package them in ways that will make them more competitive in the global film market. 12 projects are selected to participate at the workshop from Armenia (4 projects), Georgia (4 projects), Ukraine (2 projects), Belarus (1 projects), Moldova (1 project) The Workshop will be provided by the founders and organizers of MAIA ( MAIA has extensive experience providing similar training and workshops throughout the European Union. The training team will be composed of highly respected industry professionals from around Europe and beyond. This time Christian Routh, Graziella Bildesheim and Julian Friedmann will visit Yerevan for training. The Workshop will be held at INTERNEWS-Armenia Yerevan office.

Christian Routh. In recent years Christian has been involved in the design and execution of various audiovisual training workshops. Currently he is head of studies at FOUR CORNERS, a European Union MEDIA supported programme for initial training involving film schools based in Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, and England. He holds the same position for another MEDIA project, SCRIPTEAST, based in Poland, serving central European filmmakers. Prior to these, he was Head of Studies at the CO-PILOT development workshops in Barcelona, Spain, where courses were held in feature films and mobile content. Between 2002 and 2005 he was head of studies at the PILOTS TV drama workshops, in Sitges, Spain. He also acts as a consultant, lecturer, screenwriter, and script editor, for various production companies, state agencies, and directors, including MEDIA; Eurimages; the Doha Film Institute, Proimagenes Colombia, and the Binger Film Lab in Amsterdam, where he has been teaching regularly for over thirteen years. With the late Dagmar Benke, Christian is the co-author of a book called SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT, published by UVK, Germany. Before moving to the delights of Spain from his native London in 2000, he was Head of Selection at the European Script Fund, and EMDA, from its inception in 1989, until 1998.

Graziella Bildesheim: is an independent producer. She has been involved since 1993 in the development and financial packaging of feature and documentary films in co-production with European and international partners. With her company Fabulafilm, active in Italy and Europe between 2003 and 2011, she set up and participated in a number of international co-productions. Since 1994 she also acts as a consultant and expert assessor on project development and international co-productions for various production companies and International and European state agencies and organizations. She regularly lectures at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia/ National Film School in Italy and is often called to act as trainer or tutor on workshops in Italy and abroad. Graziella is the founder and director of a number of international training initiatives: MAIA WORKSHOPS, targeted to emerging creative producers and supported by the European Union Media Programme, has been running since 2006 with three workshops per year in different European countries; HERMES was developed in 2009 with the Council of Europe and Eurimages for film professionals of the Eastern Partnership countries. She was responsible for the coordination of New Cinema Network, the Rome Film Festival’s co-production network, in 2006 and 2007. She has also served on the jury of Directors Across Borders in Yerevan and Pitch Doc in Tbilisi in 2010. Graziella is member of the European Film Academy and of ATC (Audiovisual Training Coalition), an association between European training providers.

Julian Friedmann: Joint Managing Director of Blake Friedmann Literary Agency in London which represents 200 book and script writers worldwide and Editor of ScriptWriter Magazine, Europe's leading magazine for professional scriptwriters.In the early 1990s was the first UK Co-ordinator for EAVE, a producer-training course that was one of the European Union MEDIA 1 projects. He then went on to create and become. Head of Studies of PILOTS (Programme for the International Launch of Television Series) for MEDIA 1, a course focused on the writing and developing of long-running television series. Lecturers included John Wells (E.R. and The West Wing) and Caryn Mandabach (Carsey Werner - Roseanne, Third Rock from the Sun). Author of How to Make Money Scriptwriting and Editor of two volumes of essays, Julian now teaches all aspects of the business of scriptwriting.
